Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical, non-chemical, non-invasive method of skin resurfacing that utilizes fine crystals to provide effective exfoliation and rejuvenation of the superficial layers of the skin. When a more aggressive treatment is necessary, vacuum pressure can be increased to evenly penetrate deeper layers of the skin. Increasing the blood supply provides nutrients necessary for skin regeneration, repair, and increased cellular turnover. In return, improving the skins’ elasticity and texture, as well as balancing the pigment. Microdermabrasion also encourages the production of a new underlying layer of skin cells with higher levels of collagen and elastin, which further improves your skin’s appearance.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a minimally invasive facial procedure, it is a form of exfoliation that consists of using a scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dulling dead skin cells in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion. It is a very popular facial as it not only removes any peach fuzz, but it also removes all dead skin cells and leaves the skin feeling smooth and looking bright. Helps reduces the appearance of acne scaring, improves skins brightness, evens out skin tone and helps your make up to look flawless on application.

Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy is a skin treatment that involves using an electric skin needling device that contains very fine needles to make tiny holes in the top layer of the skin. This helps to stimulate the skins healing process, which in turn produces more collagen and elastin helping to tighten, firm and smooth the skin. Great for acne scarring, large pores, loss of elasticity in the skin, fine line and wrinkles and sun damage.

Chemical Peels

A Chemical Peel is a facial procedure, where a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers of dead skin cells, so that the skin grows back smoother and more glowy. It does not actually peel the skin which is a common misconception, and has no downtime. There are 3 different types of peels available that can target various skin concerns including acne, pigmentation/sun damage and fine lines and wrinkles.

Hydro Facial

Hydrofacial is a multi step non invasive facial treatment using the hydrofacial machine, which is used to cleanse, exfoliate, extract and hydrate using a variety of rejuvenating serums to the skin. It also has antioxidant protection which removes dead skin cells and impurities,
whilst delivering moisturising serums to create that amazing glowy skin. Suitable for all skin tones and no downtime this one is a nice pamper.

FAQ’s

How does it work?

Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that uses a spray of microcrystals to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells and reveal younger, healthier-looking skin. This treatment involves using a minimally invasive handheld device that gently sands your skin and removes the thick uneven outer layer of your skin.

Is it safe?

Microdermabrasion is minimally invasive and extremely safe when performed by a qualified provider. It only treats the top layer of the skin, so recovery is very fast. Any complications from microdermabrasion (bruising, burning, or stinging) goes away quickly without additional treatment.

Who is a candidate for Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is suitable for any skin type and tone. Microdermabrasion is used to treat light scaring, discoloration, sun damage, and stretch marks. Additionally, microdermabrasion can help improve age spots, get rid of blackheads, improve hyperpigmentation, exfoliate your skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, reduced or eliminate enlarged pores, and treat acne and the scars left by acne.

Is it painful?

Microdermabrasion is not a painful procedure during or after the treatment. Although this is a cosmetic procedure, most patients also feel that it is quite relaxing. The only thing you may feel is a sanding sensation, and this is not painful. After the treatment, your skin can feel like you have a very slight sunburn, but this will subside within a day or 2.

How long does Microdermabrasion take?

Microdermabrasion is another “lunch-time procedure” since it can be performed in about 30 minutes for the entire face..

How often does Microdermabrasion need to be performed?

Maximum results from microdermabrasion are usually reached in 5-8 sessions, which can be scheduled as closely as 1 week apart since the skin recovers so quickly from this treatment. Once you have achieved maximum results, you can have microdermabrasion treatments as a maintenance procedure. Most patients schedule maintenance treatments approximately every 2-3 months.

How long do results last?

Results from microdermabrasion tend to be temporary. You can maintain results longer by taking care of your skin through a proper skin care routine, sun protection, and hydration. Even if you care for your skin properly, people will still age and develop new imperfections on their skin. Maintenance sessions are necessary to help maintain any results from microdermabrasion in order to keep your skin smooth and radiant looking.

When will I see results?

Most patients need a series of treatments in order to see results. To treat signs of aging, maintenance sessions weekly, every two weeks, or monthly may be required. Most patients receive between 5 and 8 treatments before moving to a maintenance routine. After a series of treatments, patients usually say they have smoother skin and a more-radiant younger looking complexion.

What is the recovery from Microdermabrasion like?

After microdermabrasion, you may resume your normal daily activities. In some cases, your skin might be a bit red or swollen, but this is temporary and will subside generally within a few hours. You may need to apply moisturizer to your skin. Patients heal very quickly from microdermabrasion the majority of the time and do not experience any pain during the recovery process.

What do I need to do to prepare for Microdermabrasion treatment?

Prior to microdermabrasion, avoid any sun damage to your skin to allow for maximum comfort during your procedure. If you have any mole or other spots on your face that are growing, bleeding, or changing in any way. If you are taking medication for severe acne, you will need to wait for at least 6 months after ceasing taking that medication before you undergo a microdermabrasion treatment.

How does it work?

Dermaplaning should be performed by a licensed and experienced provider because it involves running a very sharp blade- the type used in surgeries- over the skin to remove dead skin cells and fine facial hair (AKA peach fuzz) by scraping off the top layer of the skin. This procedure produces an immediately more radiant appearance. Following this treatment, makeup application is smoother and other skin products penetrate deeper making them more effective.

Is it safe?

When it comes to Dermaplaning and the use of the very sharp blade used, there are zero safety concerns if the procedure is performed by a trained and licensed provider. Dermaplaning is no more dangerous than a man getting a facial shave from a barber shop as long as the provider is qualified. It often goes without saying, but when you undergo Dermaplaning it is important to sit very still since it is performed with a sharp blade.

Who is a candidate for Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is an excellent choice for anyone who has fine facial hair, unusually sensitive skin, or rosacea. The only people who Dermaplaning is not recommended for are those with acne-prone skin. Oil from the sebaceous glands needs to travel along the villous hair to be excreted, and when the hair is removed, the oil builds up and blocks glands on the face which causes breakouts for people who are prone to them. In addition, anyone with numerous raised lesions or skin irregularities, or a nickel allergy, should not undergo Dermaplaning.

Is it painful?

No, Dermaplaning causes zero pain during or after the procedure and is compared to the feeling of shaving your legs. It is important to sit very still and make no sudden movements since there is a very sharp blade involved.

How long does Dermaplaning take?

Dermaplaning is a quick procedure and usually takes about 30 minutes to do the entire face. You can expect to be in and out of the office in less than an hour, including your consultation, preparation, treatment, and after care instructions.

How often does Dermaplaning need to be performed?

Dermaplaning can be performed approximately every 3-4 weeks or once the skin has completed its next rejuvenation cycle. In order for it to be effective and worthwhile, dead skin cells need to accumulate again, and the vellous hairs (peach fuzz) have to grow back. You can undergo a single Dermaplane treatment if you want radiant skin for a specific event, or you can do Dermaplane treatments once a month maintain radiant looking skin all the time.

How long do results last?

Results from Dermaplaning are temporary and last about 3-4 weeks, which is about how long it takes the skin to complete a rejuvenation cycle. It is not a permanent solution since dead skin cells continue to build over time, and fine hairs are constantly growing.

What areas of the body can be treated with Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is designed to be facial treatment and is not normally used on any body parts besides the face and upper neck.

When will I see results?

Results from Dermaplaning are evident immediately after treatment. Your skin will feel softer than ever before to the touch, and it will appear more even in tone and texture. Most people notice that their makeup goes on more smoothly as well.

What do I need to do to prepare for a Dermaplaning treatment?

Nothing specific needs to be done in preparation for a Dermaplaning treatment, however, it is always recommended that patients avoid prolonged sun exposure and drink plenty of water before and after treatments. It is also not advised to undergo Dermaplane treatments if you have any raised lesions, open sores, or acne on your face.

What is the recovery from Dermaplaning like?

There is no recovery period after Dermaplaning. In fact, you can apply make-up and resume your normal daily activities directly after the treatment. I recommend using sun protection of SPF 30 or higher at all times to prevent hyperpigmentation. I also always recommend proper hydration to further promote healthy and glowing skin.

What should I expect at my appointment?

Dermaplane treatments usually take about 20-30 minutes. I will cleanse your face, and a sterile blade will be used to gently exfoliate your skin. This treatment removes the thin, top layer of dead skin cells and fine hair (peach fuzz) through a gentle scraping process with a blade designed specifically for this process. This exfoliation process prevents dead skin buildup that can make small facial wrinkles and acne scars appear larger. Dead skin cells are what typically make your skin feel rough, and an effective Dermaplane treatment will eliminate these cells and leave your skin feeling smooth and looking radiant.

How does it work?

The needling device slides along the skin to penetrate the upper layers of the skin to a depth of 2mm to create very tiny needle wounds. The wounds signal your skin to respond to these tiny wounds by producing collagen and elastin fibers. This results in fuller brighter looking skin and reduces the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Is it safe?

Microneedling is extremely safe. There are no negative side effects. Additionally, microneedling can be performed on all skin types and colors without risk or post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. Microneedling is not suitable for anyone using Accutane within the last 3 months or anyone who currently has open wounds, cuts, abrasions, has undergone radiation skin treatment within the last year, is suffering from any skin infection, condition, or herpes simplex in the area of concern, are pregnant or breast feeding, or has any history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing.

Who is a candidate for Microneedling?

Microneedling is ideal for people who have skin irregularities they want to diminish, such as mild to moderate acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, poor skin texture, large pore size, stretch marks, rosacea, melasma, UV damage, and hyperpigmentation.

Is it painful?

Microneedling is not considered to be a painful procedure. The sensation is usually described as a slight vibration and a massage with a tingling sensation.

How long does Microneedling take?

Your entire microneedling appointment will take about 45 mins for a face treatment. The procedure itself will take about 15-20 minutes.

How often does Microneedling need to be performed?

Microneedling recommendations vary depending on the condition of your skin, but I normally recommend about 3 to 6 sessions for maximum results. I advise letting your skin heal for 4 to 6 weeks between sessions before undergoing an additional microneedling session.

How long do results last?

New tissue formation can continue for up to a year after a session. Once you achieve desired results, it is recommended maintenance sessions once or twice a year.

When will I see results?

It normally takes a few treatments to see maximum results, but you may notice an improvement in your skin’s appearance after a single treatment. Your skin should continue to produce new cells long after your treatments for up to one year. Once you reach maximum results, I recommend 1-3 maintenance treatments per year.

What is the recovery from Microneedling like?

There’s no downtime/ recovery, just possible redness for 24-48 hours and no scabs as I don’t go that deep. You might feel experience a slight sore/ sensitive sensation similar to sunburn.

  • The treated area may be slightly itchy, so try to avoid touching the face
  • You should avoid working out, hot showers, massages, and sun exposure to the area treated for 48 hours after your procedure.
  • You should not apply makeup on your skin for 12 hours after your treatment or shave for 1-2 days after your treatment.
  • You may apply emollient creams to alleviate dry, tight, or itchy sensation, and you should apply an SPF of 30 or higher to protect the treated area from sun exposure.
  • Avoid sun exposure as best as possible since this could cause hyperpigmentation.
